61.3% of SDR teams are below 70% quota attainment

Two years ago that number was 25%. The playbook did not get worse. The game changed underneath it.
61.3%.
That is how many SDR teams are now below 70% quota attainment in 2026. Two years ago it was 25%. Industry wide, quota attainment has fallen to 38%.
Your reps are running the same playbook in a different game.
The activity trap
Reply rates collapsed 27% in twelve months. The instinct was predictable: send more. More sequences, more contacts, more automated personalization at scale. Volume went up. Trust went down. Reply rates fell further.
That is the trap. When response rates drop, adding volume feels like effort and reads like noise. The buyer is not ignoring your rep because they did not get enough emails.
What the numbers are actually telling you
- Attainment is a system output, not a motivation problem. Pep talks do not move a 38% number.
- If most of your team is under quota, the quota model, the lead flow, or the management layer is the variable — not the individual rep.
- Churn hides the cost. A ten person SDR team with average churn burns $360K to $520K a year on replacement alone. It never shows up as a line item, so it never gets fixed.
What to fix first
- Lead flow. Programs stall when lists go stale, campaigns are too narrow, TAM is too small, or follow ups never get recycled.
- The handoff. SDR to AE is where most programs leak. Same channels, explicit workflow, jointly set qualification standards.
- Management density. Managers create performance more than reps do. One overloaded manager across ten reps is a coaching plan on paper only.
- Channel mix. Phone first, then email, LinkedIn, text, and engaging with what they publish.
The uncomfortable part
Outbound is a math equation. How many meetings do you need? How many convert? What does pipeline have to look like to create a return on the SDR investment? The teams that scale outbound understand those numbers before they build the team, not after.
If the math does not pencil out, more headcount just makes the miss bigger.
